TOPIC: THE BOOK FOR ALL AGES

KEY VERSE: “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:20,21).

TEXT: 2 PETER 1:17-21

The hymn, The Bible Stands, by Haldor Lillenas, captures the importance of the Bible in our world today. “The Bible stands like a rock undaunted, ‘Mid the raging storms of time; Its pages burn with the truth eternal, And they glow with a light sublime. The Bible stands tho’ the hills may tumble, It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, For the Bible stands.” The Bible is a book that does not grow old or get outdated. It needs no re-editing or revision. It is a book for all ages.

Reflecting on our reading today, Apostle Peter tries to separate the scriptures from other books. He reminds his readers of his eyewitness account on the Mount of Transfiguration, where the Father spoke and called Jesus His only begotten Son. He further testifies that the writing of the scriptures and other prophetic truths came through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Peter was a credible witness who followed the Lord Jesus throughout the three and a half years of His ministry on earth. He was in the garden with the Lord and saw what happened on the cross. He felt the pain of his denial of the Saviour, and on the day of Pentecost, he experienced the refreshing presence of the Holy Spirit. No matter what doubters say, Peter believes in the credibility of the Scripture as a book that God sent to man in every age and every place. Significantly, Peter describes the Scripture as a more sure word of prophecy.

The Bible is the only book with invaluable information to prepare believers for heaven. It is a compendium of useful and relevant instructions for healthy living. It offers credible solutions for marital and family crises. It is a book to make one wise and useful to the body of Christ everywhere and every time. The Bible is a veritable source of wisdom and contains many blessings for those who read and practice its principles and precepts. You can enjoy continuous victory over Satan and his agents if you will make practising the dictates of the Bible your priority.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To know how to live fruitfully and die fulfilled, consult the Bible.

THE HUMILIATION OF THE HAUGHTY.

MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret paths” (Isaiah 3:17).

TEXT: ISAIAH 3:14-26

Our text reveals God's judgment on the daughters of Zion who were proud. As a result of their action and attitude, He planned to replace their beauty with ashes. Many youths today are haughty and have little or no regard for parents, teachers, church leaders, and friends. They assume they are better off because of the special qualities they have, the achievements attained, family background, physical beauty, popularity in the church, school, etc. They forget that a man or woman can receive nothing except it be given him or her of the Lord.

Nebuchadnezzar, Herod, and Absalom received judgment from God due to the pride they exhibited and the Bible warns that "pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall." Those who are proud are replicating what Satan did that made God to throw him out of heaven. Those who choose to be proud have chosen a pernicious way and damnation awaits them except they repent. Ladies, be not proud like Queen Vashti who lost her royal estate to Esther due to pride. Repent now if you are proud.

QUOTE: Many youths today are haughty.

PRAYER: Lord, take away the spirit of pride from me.

CHALLENGE: Before honour is humility.

TOPIC: THE FALL OF MAN

KEY VERSE: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” Genesis 3:6

TEXT: GENESIS 3:1-6

Graham laid flat on his bed with his face up looking at the ceiling. "I wish the serpent was not created, I wish the serpent did not exist at all, I wish Eve did not eat that fruit, I wish, I wish, I wish”. Graham muttered all these to himself. He was thinking about all the bad things happening around the world - flood, death, wars, famine and many more. If Graham's “wishes” were granted, the world would have been the best place to live in. Alas, it is not so. The world is in trouble because of the fall of Adam and Eve.

God clearly commanded Adam and his wife that they should not eat of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden. Rather than obey, they yielded to the serpent's temptation and sinned against God. Their sin brought about the fall of the human race and the trouble in the world. While the serpent was speaking to the woman, he was tempting her to do what God told them not to do.

Temptations usually come through our senses, especially what we see and hear. The devil uses our senses to put bad thoughts in our minds and bad desires in our hearts. While we are being tempted, we have not done wrong. The temptation is not sin! However, temptation can lead to sin when we actually do what the devil is tempting us to do. The woman was close enough to the tree to see how beautiful it was. Remember that it is best to stay far away from places you could be tempted more easily.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the power to always overcome the temptation to sin against you.
