TOPIC: OUR URGENT ASSIGNMENT
KEY VERSE: “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me” (Jonah 1:2).
TEXT: JONAH 1:1-3
Someone said, “It is not doing the thing which we like to do, but liking to do the thing which we have to do, that makes life blessed.” Some people run in circles, looking for their purpose in life. Others spend their energy and resources running away from what they know as their assignment. Jonah belonged to the latter category. He heard the voice of God, understood what God wanted him to do, and decided to run away from the task.
That is the story of Jonah, the son of Amittai. He received a clear message from God directing him to preach a message of repentance to the Assyrian city of Nineveh. God wanted Jonah to reach out to the great city of 120,000 people with a message of hope because the city’s wickedness was much. Jonah knew what to do but did not want to do it. Instead, he decided to run away from the assignment and head towards Tarshish. It is a classic case of dereliction of duty for a runaway preacher.
God’s message to Jonah is relevant to every Christian today. More than at any other time in the history of humanity, ungodliness and wickedness are rife in the public and personal lives of religious practitioners. The name of the Lord is often brought to disrepute by many who, like Jonah, have refused to represent Christ and talk about His love to sinners. Just like He wanted Jonah to go to Nineveh, God wants us to go to our towns and cities and share the good news of Jesus with them. We must, therefore, recognise our assignments and leave our comfort zones to execute them.
No one has any excuse for not doing the Lord’s assignment. Jonah failed to respond promptly, and he paid dearly for his stubbornness. We should learn from his turbulent journey to the most harrowing depths of the sea, which turned him into a three-day nonstop prayer warrior. God later had mercy on him and rescued him from untimely death. You would want to travel differently, wouldn’t you? Then, go and do your assignment today.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Delayed obedience amounts to disobedience.

WARN AND WIN THEM
MEMORY VERSE: “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences” (2 Corinthians 5:11).
TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:10-15
In many areas where we have hazardous equipment, there is always a danger signpost that is placed around the area to warn the trespasser of the impending danger of any violation or intrusion. Similarly, in our text, the word of God tells us about the necessity of warning sinners of the terror of God coming upon all who remain or die in sin.
God has appointed a day in which he will judge this sinful world (Acts17:30-31). However, in His love and mercy, He gave His Son Jesus to die for the salvation of the whole world. Before leaving the world, He committed the preaching of the gospel to His followers. Like the early disciples, we are to warn sinners and tell them of the loving Saviour who has died to save them from hell fire. We can reach out to the sinners in different ways. We can distribute tracts and other Christian literature, use the social media platforms to share gospel contents, and talk to sinners one-on-one. God will reward those who are obedient in carrying out the task of evangelism diligently.
QUOTE: We are to warn sinner.
PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to warn and win the lost to You.
CHALLENGE: Warn sinners about the terror of the Lord.

GOD'S HOTLINE
KEY VERSE: “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matthew 7:8
TEXT: MATTHEW 27:7-11
A hotline is defined as a telephone line that is always staffed and able to give immediate assistance. It is a direct line between two people, especially one between heads of States to be used in an emergency. Most communication service providers have dedicated hotlines that attend to the needs of the customers 24/7.
Think of God's hotline like a special phone line that is never too busy, where you can call anytime, anywhere and God is always there to listen. Isn't that amazing? You see, with God, there is no waiting on hold. The moment we talk to Him, He is all ears, ready to hear us out. Have you ever tried calling someone, but they couldn't answer? That never happens with God! He hears every prayer, every little thing we tell Him, no matter where we are or what time it is. It is all because He loves us so much!
But here is something important to remember; when we do things that are wrong, it can get in the way of our connection with God. It is like putting up a barrier between us and Him. We should live our lives in a way that makes God happy, keeping our hearts open to Him, so we can keep that hotline clear and strong.
PRAYER: Help me Oh Lord to live a life that keeps me close to You.
