SUNDAY MARCH 30, 2025
TOPIC: THE SHAPE OF STEADFASTNESS
KEY VERSE: “So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure” (2 Thessalonians 1:4).
TEXT: 2 THESSALONIANS 1:1-12
In tribute to perseverance, Winston Churchill, a two-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, said, “The nose of the bulldog is slanted backward so he can continue to breathe without letting go.”
The church in Thessalonica had the tenacity of the bulldog as far as faith was concerned. Taught by Apostle Paul and his ministerial companions, this church was well grounded in the doctrines of Christ. In today’s Bible text, the apostle acknowledged their flourishing growth in the faith and their abounding mutual love, for which they felt bound to thank God. The faith and patience of this church shone brilliantly in the face of much persecution at the hands of the Jews and their countrymen. As such, they became a model of what God’s grace can do when effectively communicated to sincere and faithful hearts.
Paul and his fellow missionaries heard good testimonies from different places about the outstanding growth and steadfastness of the brethren in Thessalonica. They boasted of this church to believers in other locations. It is most gratifying to know, as believers, that our spiritual state gives encouragement, joy, and fulfilment to those who have laboured over us. This can only happen when we humbly embrace the grace of God as we apply our minds to the authentic word of God. We cannot hope to enjoy the Christian life or muster sufficient strength to withstand the slightest persecution when we rebel against our spiritual mentors and live in clear violation of God’s word.
It is clear from today’s text that a significant motivation for the perseverance of the Thessalonian Christians was the expectation of the second coming of Christ. If so, for them, it ought to be more for present-day Christians because the end is now nearer. It is dangerous to remain lukewarm, worldly-minded, or careless at this crucial hour. Will you, this moment, focus your mind and, through sincere prayer, appropriate the grace of God for a triumphant Christian life?

TOPIC: PRAYER PATTERN
MEMORY VERSE: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Matthew 6:9).
TEXT: MATTHEW 6:5-15
“I fear the prayer of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.” This statement was credited to the Queen of Scotland concerning the famous Scottish preacher and reformer, John Knox. Prayer is communing with God. It is also standing in the gap for others. It can also be seen as waging spiritual warfare against the powers of darkness and satanic forces. Christ, in teaching on the pattern of prayer, stresses the need for a believer to make praying a way of life. “When thou prayest’’ not “If thou prayest.’’ The pattern of prayer, from our text, can be outlined as:
Our Father means we must have a relationship with God through genuine repentance from sin. This makes us members of God’s family. “Hallow be thy name” implies that we should reverence, worship and praise the name of the Lord for the past, present and future blessings. Our prayer should also be based on the revealed will of God, as we seek His grace daily for victory over temptations while forgiving those who offend us to guarantee answers to our prayers.
QUOTE: Seek His grace daily for victory.
PRAYER: Teach me Lord to pray trusting you.
CHALLENGE: Ask God for your daily needs.

TOPIC: THE BIBLE STANDS
KEY VERSE: “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Isaiah 40:8
TEXT: ISAIAH 40:5-8
The word “Bible” comes from the latin word “biblia” which means “Book”. Haldor Lillenas wrote the lyrics of the song “The Bible stands” which has become a hymn sung in various churches and assemblies today:
The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
'Mid the raging storms of time;
Its pages burn with the truth eternal,
And they glow with a light sublime.
The Bible stands though the hills may tumble,
It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,
For the Bible stands.
The Bible which is the word of God stands sure and stands forever. Several people have tried to destroy the Bible and ensure it no longer exists, but they failed because the word of God cannot be destroyed. You must preserve the word, defend it and obey it. Disobedience to the word of God attracts punishment. Do not sit on the Bible, tear it, add to it or remove from it. With the Bible you are sure of eternal life as it is the “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth” – BIBLE.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to value Your word by reading it every day.
